ArcFixer v1.00 by Paul F. Johnson, September 1999

Usage :

ArcFixer oldfile(.arc) <newfile(.arc)>

neither newfile or the extensions need to be specified except if they exist in the source.

What is this for?

Unfortunately, some of us have to use the dreaded PC machines at work for our internet access and have, on occasions, come across files with the .arc extension. PCs don't have .arc in their MimeMap and quite a few ISPs won't map it either. This means that when you try and download the application, the screen is filled with junk. Upshot, you couldn't use the software.

You can now!

Click on as you would before and wait for the gibberish to stop downloading. Save it to disc and run this program, specifying the input filename. The program then fixes the downloaded file and you can decompress it. You will need to set the filetype to &3FB (this is the filetype of ArcFS and PKArc files) before decompressing.

I would advise running this in a taskwindow, that way, if there are any errors you can always send me a copy of the taskwindow and I'll play around with it.

This program was compiled on an A440 using OS3.1 and will work happily on any RISC OS machine (3.1 upwards). My RPC loves it!
