Welcome to SmbServer, a Samba Server for RISCOS. This is a port of Samba 2.0.2-19990209 for Unix/Linux. SmbServer allows any filing system and directory path on RISCOS to be exported and shared with Unix/Linux and Windows. Windows/Linux/Unix can connect to the RISCOS directories as if they were connecting to another Windows machine since Samba uses the Microsoft File Sharing Protocol.

This software is provided as is and the author takes no responsibility for any loss or damage of files or data when using it! This software has been tested with Linux, Windows 98, !Omniclient(LanMan) (running on anther RiscPc) and !LanMan98 (running on anther RiscPc). This software has been tested on RISCOS 4.02, RISCOS 3.7 and RISCOS 3.1.

This port does not yet have any of the Netbios name protocol support (which normally runs as the program nmbd on Unix), so if you are not running a nameserver on your network you need to add the name of the RISCOS machines you want to access to the host files of the client machines. Details are given in section 4.

If you have problems check the FAQ then try comp.sys.acorn.networking and/or send email to me! (Also take a look at an alternative help file for setting up a two computer network.)

If upgrading from an earlier version of !smbserver then copy the file !smbserver.Resources.smb/conf to some where safe. Delete the old version and then unpack the archive to your chosen directory. Copy your version of smb/conf over the top of the one in !smbserver.Resources.smb/conf.

Modules

This version of !smbserver requires the ToolBox Lib modules. If you do not have then then you can download them from RISCOS Ltd.

The Mimemap module is also required. If you do not have a copy then a public domain version can be download from here.
