                                   GMail
                                   =====
Version 1.03 (25 Mar 1998)

Introduction
------------
This is a simple frontend for GMail. Not only does it configure the program,
but it also allows you to start emails easier too.

Usage
-----
Once on the iconbar there are three things you can do :
  * Click Select on it.
This will probably start an email for which you can fill in the fields.
If you have multiple users configured it will prompt you for the user
    to send as.
  * Drag a file to it.
This will probably look identical to clicking select but will attach the
    file to the message.
Again, if multiple users are configure, it will prompt you.
  * Click adjust.
This will start configuring the system. This is a biggy, so it has a
    section all to itself.

Configuration
-------------
To make things simple, I'm going to go through which fields you need to fill
in for which programs. This may mean repitition, but it makes things easier
in the long run!

If not defined, then Marcel's configuration file will
be looked at and the email address extracted. If a User name
was not defined above then the one from this configuration
                 file will be used.
  Organisation - Your organisation.
Reply to - The address people should reply to.
If not defined, then people will reply to your email address.
Signature - The file to use as your signature.
If this is not set, then Marcel's signature file
                 (/signature) will be used.
Addresses - The file to use to look up nick names in.
If not defined, then Marcel's address book will be used.

                 be used.
File CC - The file to place copies of outgoing mail in.
If not defined then no copies will be made.
Gateway - This is not used.

There are no 'required' fields if Marcel has been seen.

If not defined, then the current directory is searched
                 for a file called /addrbook.
Headers - The file to use for additional headers.

If not defined, then the KA9Q 'autoexec' file will be
searched for a gateway name. If one is not found then
localhost will be assumed (and a message displayed to this
effect - this will probably fail).

If not defined, then the <POP$Settings> file will be
searched for a gateway name. If one is not found then
                 an error will be raised.

The only 'required' field is the Email address, unless your
<POP$Settings> file does not contain a valid hostname.

If not defined then no copies will be made.

If not defined, then the <POPStar$Dir>.Choices file will be
searched for a gateway name. If one is not found then
                 localhost will be used.

The only 'required' field is the Email address. You are recommended to set
  the Gateway option.

Termite :

If not defined, then people will reply to your email address.

                 for a file called /addrbook.
Headers - The file to use for additional headers.
If not defined, then the current directory is searched
                 for a file called /headers.
File CC - The file to place copies of outgoing mail in.
If not defined then no copies will be made.
Gateway - The host to use to post the mail through.
If not defined, then <NewsBase$RemoteHost> will be used. If
this is not defined then the domain of the 'to' address will
be used. This last option is not guarenteed to work.

The only 'required' field is the Email address. You are recommended to set
  the Gateway option.

Acorn !Mail :
  User name - Your username.
  Email - Your email address.
  Organisation - Your organisation.
Reply to - The address people should reply to.
If not defined, then people will reply to your email address.

If not defined, then the current directory is searched
                 for a file called /sig.
Addresses - The file to use to look up nick names in.
If not defined, then the current directory is searched
                 for a file called /addrbook.
Headers - The file to use for additional headers.
If not defined, then the current directory is searched
                 for a file called /headers.
File CC - The file to place copies of outgoing mail in.
If not defined then no copies will be made.
Gateway - This field is ignored.

The only 'required' field is the Email address. BCC's will probably not
work. If you send mail and !Connect is not running it will be deleted
when !Connect next runs (blame Acorn, not me!). You will need to set
AcornPostOut$Dir in the !Post_Out directory for us to be able to find where
to put the mail. All in all, I recommend you don't use !Mail or !Connect.

Direct :
  User name - Your username.
  Email - Your email address.
  Organisation - Your organisation.
Reply to - The address people should reply to.
If not defined, then people will reply to your email address.
Signature - The file to use as your signature.
Gateway - The host to use to post the mail through.

There are two 'required' fields are the Email address and Gateway.
Note: Direct cannot be 'detected' by normal means and is only available as
a command line option. Data transfers may also be quite slow using this
  method.

Multiple users
--------------
You will notice that if you maximise the window there are a few options which
appear. The important one at the bottom is the user name. In the multiple
user mode [root] is the user that mail will be sent from if no other user is
specified (with -U or Mail$User if you do it by hand). To add a new user,
click on the name and enter a new user name to create. Once created the user
will initially be completely unique - it will not inherit from [root].

Any option which is left blank and the 'Override' button turned off will
inherit it's value from [root].
Any option which is left blank and the 'Override' button turned on will
be ignored, eg the Reply-To address will not be used, etc.

This may sound odd, but it allows you to use common files for certain things.
I commonly use this to keep a global address book and Organisation, but the
rest of the settings depend on the user.

Remember to click Ok, or Save to confirm the settings for this user for this
session, or save the settings for this user. Save and Ok only act upon the
settings currently visible, so if you change users you lose any changes.

Updates
-------
This program may (or may not) be updated periodically. By clicking on the
infobox window entries for Author and Version you can move directly to the
web pages for the Justin Fletcher and this application respectively.

Help and message files
----------------------
This application is fully !Help compliant and it is recommended that when
getting to grips with it the help should be used if only to give it some
purpose! It also supports the use of MessageTrans and therefore translation
to another language or changing the messages for the fun of it is much easier
than it might have been.

Compatibility
-------------
This application has been tested on the author's A5000, but due to the lack
of friends with Acorns has not been tested on other systems. Therefore, it
ought to work on any RO3.1 machine. It is likely that it may work on RO3.5,
RO3.6, and RO3.7.

Disclaimer
----------

may cause or loss of data resulting in its use. This application is Public
Domain Freeware. This means that it may be distributed, so long as no charge
other than copying costs are charged for it. The copyright remains with

So now Mozes' excellent QuickMail /hasn't/ got one up on me,
ok ? Anything you can do, I can do better... I can do anything
better than you... (in your court, Stuart!)

                 Minor (tiny) bug fixes.

Version 1.02 : 24 Mar 1998

Minor change to cope with allowing directories (configured in
               the program).

Dropped the 'FE' from the application name.
